The Americas Vocal Ensemble Presents Crossing Cultures in the Americas Concerts in Queens and Manhattan on October 21, 29 and 30

The Americas Vocal Ensemble, their Music Director Nelly Vuksic and pianist Cesar Vuksic will present “Crossing Cultures in the Americas,” concerts with commentaries, on the following days and at the following locations:

Sunday, October 21, 2007 – 3 PM at the Queens Museum of Arts in the New York Building, Flushing Meadows, Corona Park, Queens. For information, call at 718-592-9700.

Monday, October 29 - 12:15 PM at LeFrak Concert Hall of Queens College, 65-30 Kissena Boulevard in Flushing, Queens. For information, call 718-997-3800.

Tuesday, October 30 - 8:00 PM, as part of the Classical Series at Saint Peter’s Church, Citicorp Building, 619 Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. For information, call 212-935-2200.

These concerts will feature works by the outstanding composers of our continent: Jorge Cordoba, Gerardo Dirie, Jacobo Ficher, Enrique Ubieta, Gunhild Glass, Matthew Harris, Astor Piazzolla, Pedro Belisario Perez and Eduardo Grau as well as music from the Colonial Period by Juan Perez Bocanegra (Bolivia) and Jose Cascante (Colombia).

This program reflects the different cultural encounters that have been taking place in the varied and rich musical expressions of the Americas from the Colonial period to the present. These “transformations” that takes place in music when “cultural encounters” occur and different cultures find each other, creating new forms by mutual influences.

Suggested donation for the October 30 concert is $20 and $15. The October 21 and 29 concerts are free and open to the public.

This program will also be presented on Thursday, October 11 – 1 PM at the Elmhurst Senior Center, 75-01 Broadway in Elmhurst (718-478-7171), on Thursday, October 18 – 2:30 PM at the Kew Gardens Community Center, 80-02 Kew Gardens Road in Kew Gardens (718-268-5960) and on Thursday, October 25 – 1:30 PM at the Sunnyside Community Service, 43-31 39th St. in Sunnyside (718-784-6173).
